QUOTATION PLANNING
How to Prepare a Steel Fabrication RFQ
A practical RFQ checklist for contractors and engineering offices covering drawings, quantities, materials, inspection, finish and responsibilities.
Define the Package
Do you need fabrication and supply, design and shop drawings, or erection as well? Identify the project, location, coordinating party and component type. A defined package helps the fabricator understand responsibilities and reduces inconsistent pricing assumptions.
Send Clearly Identified Revisions
Provide drawings, specifications and a BOQ or component list with revision numbers and the governing document where information conflicts. Identify specified materials, grades, thicknesses, sections and connections. Flag missing information for review rather than assuming the fabricator will independently select a substitute.
Specify Inspection and Delivery Condition
State welding, inspection, material documentation, drawing approval and consultant review requirements. Include surface preparation, coating or galvanizing, packing and piece-marking requirements. Clarify client-supplied materials and responsibility for transport, unloading and lifting.
Review the Technical and Commercial Offer
Compare scope, quantities, exclusions, documentation, programme and payment terms alongside price. When drawings change, request a review of the impact before fabrication proceeds. Share available documents even if the package is incomplete, clearly distinguishing approved information from preliminary information.
Prepare Your Project Enquiry
Share available drawings, specifications, project location and required scope for review.
